AFGE Official Jeremy Lannan Accused Of Abusing Staff, Investigation Finds
Jeremy A. Lannan, the National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices at the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), has been found guilty of mistreating his employees, according to an internal investigation by the Potomac Law Group. The probe revealed that Lannan, tasked with protecting workers’ rights, created a hostile work environment through intimidation and verbal abuse.
Employees described Lannan’s leadership as oppressive, with one assistant reporting severe stress due to his fear-based management style. Another employee, who handles discrimination cases, noted that Lannan’s erratic behavior and frequent outbursts led her to seek therapy. The investigation highlighted a high turnover rate among his staff as a result of these issues.
AFGE National Vice President Arnold Scott filed charges against Lannan for creating a hostile work environment and recommended his removal to protect the union from legal liabilities. Scott stressed the importance of addressing this behavior, stating, “There needs to be a clear message sent that this type of conduct will not be tolerated by officers of AFGE.”
Lannan has denied the allegations, claiming that the investigation is biased against him because he is gay. Despite the serious accusations, he continues to serve in his role and is running for president in the upcoming union election. This situation has sparked concerns about the AFGE’s leadership and its dedication to ensuring a safe and respectful workplace for its members.
