Colorado Family Battles Squatters As Elderly Man Loses Control Of His Home

William Towns, a 76-year-old man with dementia, is reportedly living in fear after squatters allegedly took over his home in Colorado Springs. The family claims that Towns, who initially invited a homeless woman into the house to help with chores, has since lost control of the situation as the woman moved her son, boyfriend, and belongings into the house.

The squatters have reportedly started a mushroom-growing operation in the living room and engaged in illegal activities, including underage drug use. Towns’ daughters say their father is now afraid to live in his own home, which he has shared with his wife for decades. “He feels extremely uncomfortable and fearful for his safety,” the daughters wrote.

The family has sought help from the police, but authorities have said that since the squatters were invited into the house, it is not a criminal trespassing case. The only option left for the family is to go through the formal eviction process, which could take several months.

Faced with steep legal fees, the family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the eviction process. “The system is not helping us, and we don’t know what else to do,” the daughters said. Meanwhile, the squatters remain in the home, adding to the family’s stress.
