Congress Demands Jen Psaki Testify About Her Role In Disastrous Afghanistan Withdrawal
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul has formally requested former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki to testify regarding her role in the Biden administration’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of 13 American servicemembers and over 170 Afghan civilians.

In a letter to Psaki’s counsel, Emily Loeb McCaul demanded that Psaki schedule a transcribed interview by May 28, 2024.
The chairman criticized Psaki for advancing “untrue” narratives about the withdrawal process and the non-combatant evacuation operation that ensued during the chaotic Taliban takeover in August 2021.

The Committee’s investigation points to Ms. Psaki as having played an important role in the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the deadly August 2021 non-combatant evacuation operation” wrote Chairman McCaul.

The request follows extensive efforts by the committee to uncover the truth behind the withdrawal. They have conducted interviews with 17 U.S. Department of State and Department of Defense officials and reviewed over 10,000 pages of documents.
McCaul also pointed out discrepancies in Psaki’s recent memoir “Say More: Lessons from Work the White House and the World,” where she discusses her tenure and the withdrawal; notably, her claim that President Biden never looked at his watch during the dignified transfer ceremony of the fallen servicemembers — a point widely criticized and viewed as disrespectful by many.
“It is troubling that Ms. Psaki seeks to profit off the Afghanistan tragedy and has felt comfortable writing accounts and making them available to the general public but refuses to make herself available to Congress the branch dedicated to representing the interest and will of the American people” McCaul stated. The committee has proposed three dates for Psaki’s transcribed interview and is prepared to use all tools at its disposal including a subpoena to compel her testimony if she continues to obstruct their critical investigation.
