Florida Man Arrested For Alleged Plan To Bomb NYSE In Anti-Government Plot

A Florida man has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to bomb the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in a bid to “reboot” the U.S. government. Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, who is believed to have been born in 1994, was charged in a federal court on Wednesday with attempting to use an improvised explosive device (IED) to damage or destroy a building used in interstate or foreign commerce, according to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

The FBI’s investigation into Yener began in February after receiving a tip about bomb-making materials stored in an unlocked storage unit in Coral Springs, Florida. After obtaining a search warrant, the FBI discovered bomb-making blueprints, timers, circuit boards, and other electronics that could be used in explosive devices. Investigators also uncovered Yener’s extensive online search history, which showed a pattern of interest in bomb-making going back to 2017.

As part of the investigation, the FBI arranged a meeting with Yener through an undercover agent posing as a member of a militia group. In October, Yener allegedly identified the NYSE as the location for his planned attack, with a target date set for November 18. He also reportedly recorded a message that was intended to be sent to the media explaining his motives for the attack.

In his recorded message, Yener reportedly compared himself to notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden, expressing an ideology centered around violent change. “Our war is with the government,” Yener allegedly said, calling for others to join his cause in a fight for what he described as “change.” He also allegedly issued chilling threats, stating, “If you speak ill of us, we will chop out your tongue.”

Yener’s previous extremist views were revealed during a conversation with the FBI, where he admitted to being approached by ISIS recruiters in 2015, though he declined to join. He also allegedly expressed interest in joining domestic extremist groups like the Boogaloo Boys but was reportedly rejected by them due to his desire for martyrdom.

This arrest raises significant concerns about the increasing threat of domestic extremism. The FBI’s ongoing investigation into Yener highlights the danger posed by individuals radicalized within the U.S., and the need for continued vigilance in monitoring and preventing acts of domestic terrorism.
