Former NY Aide Arrested For Allegedly Acting As Chinese Government Agent

Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was arrested Tuesday morning, along with her husband, Christopher Hu, for allegedly serving as an undisclosed agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The arrest took place after an FBI raid on their Long Island residence.

Sun, 41, is charged with multiple crimes, including violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband, 40, faces charges of money laundering conspiracy and bank fraud. Federal prosecutors allege that the couple funneled millions of dollars into the U.S. to benefit the Chinese government, using the funds to buy luxury properties and vehicles.

The indictment claims that Sun leveraged her position within the New York state government to block representatives from Taiwan while arranging meetings for Chinese government officials. The couple allegedly used their illicit profits to purchase a $4.1 million home on Long Island, a $2.1 million condo in Hawaii, and a 2024 Ferrari.

U.S. Attorney Breon Peace pointed out that Sun and her husband took advantage of their roles to enrich themselves while promoting the interests of the CCP. Gov. Hochul’s administration acted swiftly by terminating Sun’s employment in March 2023 upon discovering evidence of her misconduct, and they have fully supported the federal investigation.

This arrest highlights the serious issue of foreign interference in U.S. government institutions and the need for continued vigilance in safeguarding national security.
