He QUIT HIS JOB To Do WHAT??

When Adam Radcliffe left his corporate engineering career behind three years ago, he didn’t foresee rowing 3,500 nautical miles across the North Atlantic with three ex‑Royal Marines—but that’s exactly what he’s doing as part of “Team United We Conquer,” a crew aiming to raise money for veterans’ mental health and set a new world rowing record.

At a Glance

• Radcliffe and three British veterans will row from New Jersey to the Isles of Scilly, UK

• The voyage spans 3,500 nautical miles and targets beating the world record of 43 days, 21 hours, 26 minutes

• Crew includes record‑holder Jack Jarvis and ex‑Royal Marines David “Brucey” Bruce and Sam “Nutty” Edwards

• The team hopes to raise £50,000 ($67,000) for Head Up, a veterans’ mental health charity

• Their boat was once lost at sea, later recovered and rebuilt for the mission

From Cubicles to the Ocean

Radcliffe quit his corporate engineering job for a life of adventure. As he told Fox News, “At 90 years old, I want to look back and know I didn’t choose the coward’s path.” His teammates include Jack Jarvis, who set a solo Atlantic rowing record, and two fellow veterans—David “Brucey” Bruce and Sam “Nutty” Edwards—who bring Royal Marine grit to the expedition.

Building Camaraderie at Sea

Their 7-meter boat has its own story—once adrift for months in the Atlantic before being recovered off the African coast and refurbished. Now, it’s bound for a record-setting attempt across the North Atlantic. “Living in a small boat with three other hairy men for over a month will test us,” Jarvis told Fox News, “but bonds form in adversity.”

Mission Beyond Records

Beyond the record chase, Team United We Conquer is rowing to raise £50,000 for Head Up, a UK charity supporting veterans transitioning to civilian life. Radcliffe says the physical and mental demands of ocean rowing echo the team’s broader message: reclaim focus, support one another, and pursue new purpose. “You don’t have time to check TikTok when you’re rowing an ocean,” he joked.

Their journey will test endurance, teamwork, and resolve—but if successful, they’ll not only enter the record books but help fund vital mental health resources for veterans who need them most.
