Kamala Harris’ VP Pick Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Faces Backlash For Praising Chinese Communism
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate in the 2024 election, is under fire for remarks he made in the 1990s praising Chinese communism while teaching in Nebraska. In a 1991 article from the Alliance Times-Herald,
Walz is quoted telling his students that under Chinese communism, “everyone is the same” and the government ensures citizens receive food and housing equally.
Walz’s comments included praising the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) system as one where “everyone shares,” describing it as a model of equality.
However, he failed to acknowledge the brutal enforcement of China’s one-child policy, mischaracterizing it as merely a tax rather than addressing the forced abortions and sterilizations that were widespread under the regime.
As Walz faces a House Oversight Committee investigation into his ties with Chinese officials, his past remarks are drawing increased attention. Critics argue that his favorable view of the CCP’s policies casts doubt on his judgment and suitability for national office.
The resurfacing of these comments is expected to add fuel to conservative criticism of the Harris-Walz ticket, particularly concerning their stance on international human rights and relations with authoritarian regimes.
