She is also pursuing a more personal project with the launch of a children’s book she hopes will help relate a life lesson she learned through a painful experience in her own adolescence.
“The Never-Give-Up Pup” is being published by Brave Books, and Trump recently explained the significance of the story.
“What is lacking so much in our society today is hard work,” she said. “People really have a tendency not to want to work hard. Everything is accessible these days for our kids.”
In her own life, Trump said she was pushed to persevere through disappointment after she tried out for, and failed to make, her school’s junior varsity cheerleading squad.
“I was devastated, and my dad was the one who said, ‘Listen, you can either be upset about this or you can work really hard over the next year,’” she recalled.
Trump said she took her father’s advice and focused her attention on training for the next year’s tryout.
“I worked as hard as I possibly could over the next year,” she said. “And then the next year, when I went to try out, I made the varsity team instead of the JV team. It was such an impressionable moment for me. It was something that I’ll never forget because I realized, wow, hard work really does pay off in so many ways.”
The protagonist in her book learns the same lesson while navigating hurdles along the way to his goal of becoming a detective. According to the author, GOP presidential primary front-runner Donald Trump is also a prime example of this important character trait.
“Never giving up is such a, I mean it’s almost a platform for my father-in-law at this point,” she said. “It’s really instilled in who he is, and it’s in his character. I never imagined that [the book] would so closely resemble, you know, his path and the path of this book. But it really is, it’s amazing, and the only thing I can say is sometimes it is all about divine timing.”
