Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls Andrew Cuomo ‘Dumbest Tool of the Chinese Government’ Over Spying And COVID Nursing Home Scandals

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) blasted former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday, accusing him of mishandling nursing home policies during the COVID-19 pandemic while a suspected Chinese spy was allegedly working in his administration. Greene’s remarks came during Cuomo’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Cuomo faced scrutiny for his administration’s nursing home policies during the pandemic, particularly a directive from March 2020 that forced nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients. This policy has been criticized for contributing to a large number of nursing home deaths. As reported by the Daily Caller News Foundation in May 2020, Cuomo’s administration also underreported nursing home deaths by changing how deaths were classified.

Greene referenced the recent arrest of a former Democratic aide, Linda Sun, who was accused of acting as a Chinese spy. Sun and her husband were arrested in early September, facing charges including visa fraud, alien smuggling, and violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. During the hearing, Greene did not hold back in her criticism of Cuomo, saying, “Mr. Cuomo, you were thanking China, the PRC, while you had a woman named Linda Sun working for you who has now been identified as a Chinese spy.”

She further questioned whether Cuomo was knowingly complicit in Sun’s actions or simply “the dumbest tool of the Chinese government.” Greene also pointed out the sexual harassment allegations against Cuomo, which involved 13 women during his time as governor, and suggested that the Democratic Department of Justice helped him avoid consequences.

Cuomo responded by downplaying Sun’s role in his administration, stating she was a “junior member” and that he wouldn’t recognize her. However, he acknowledged the seriousness of the issue of foreign infiltration, emphasizing the need for cooperation between state and federal governments to address the threat of spies from China or other foreign governments.

The exchange highlighted growing concerns over foreign influence within U.S. government institutions, particularly through individuals who manage to infiltrate high-level political offices. Greene’s pointed questioning of Cuomo, alongside Sun’s arrest, raises further questions about security protocols and foreign interference in American politics.
