Massive Smuggling Tunnel Found Linking El Paso And Mexico Raises Border Security Concerns
Border security officials have uncovered a sophisticated underground tunnel connecting El Paso, Texas, to Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, in what authorities are calling a major discovery in the fight against human trafficking and drug smuggling. The tunnel, found by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso and U.S. Border Patrol agents, is being described as a rare and alarming find for the region.
Measuring about six feet tall and four feet wide, the tunnel was equipped with reinforced wooden beams, electrical lighting and a ventilation system, indicating the involvement of well-funded criminal organizations. Investigators believe the tunnel was built within the last year and strategically connected to the Boone Street storm drain in El Paso, offering smugglers a hidden path beneath the border.
“This discovery is a significant blow to transnational criminal organizations who wrongly believe they can outsmart law enforcement,” said Jason T. Stevens, Special Agent in Charge at HSI El Paso. Stevens praised the joint effort of multiple law enforcement agencies in disrupting this elaborate smuggling operation.

Reports suggest the tunnel may have been used to traffic Venezuelan women into the U.S., further raising concerns about the growing human trafficking crisis at the southern border. Journalist Ali Bradley noted that while smuggling tunnels are more common in the San Diego area, the presence of such an operation in El Paso is highly unusual and concerning.
