Schumer Attempts To Block McCormick’s Orientation Despite Clear Election Win
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has refused to recognize Senator-elect Dave McCormick’s victory in Pennsylvania, sparking outrage among Republican leaders. McCormick, declared the winner by the Associated Press, plans to attend Senate orientation this week, challenging Schumer’s resistance.
McCormick leads Democratic incumbent Sen. Bob Casey by over 30,000 votes, but Schumer insists the race remains unresolved due to uncounted ballots. Casey has also refused to concede, creating additional controversy around the outcome.
Republicans are calling Schumer’s actions an affront to democracy. Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) said, “The idea that Schumer would not allow [McCormick] to participate in Senate orientation is beyond unacceptable.”
National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Steve Daines (R-MT) added his criticism, accusing Schumer of ignoring legitimate election results. “Blocking @DaveMcCormickPA…is outrageous & a disservice to PA & the country,” he said.
The Associated Press called the race for McCormick on November 7, solidifying his place in the incoming Republican majority set to take control of the Senate in January. Despite this, Schumer has continued to cast doubt on the results.
McCormick’s determination to attend orientation highlights his readiness to represent Pennsylvania while Republicans rally behind him to secure their majority. The ongoing dispute underscores the deepening partisan divide in Washington.
