Texas Teachers Suspended For Allegedly Giving Preschoolers Sleep Aids
Two teachers at Northgate Crossing Elementary School in Spring, Texas, have been placed on administrative leave following allegations that they gave preschool students stickers believed to contain sleep aids. The investigation began after a concerned mother, Lisa Luviano, reported that her daughter came home with a “sleeping sticker” that she said was given by her teacher during nap time.
Luviano became suspicious and researched the sticker online, discovering that it resembled melatonin patches marketed for adults on platforms like Amazon. These patches are designed to promote sleep and contain ingredients not intended for children.
Another parent, Melissa Gilford, confirmed that her 4-year-old child also received a similar sticker and referred to it as a “sleepy sticker.” As more parents raised concerns, another mother, Najala Abdullah, noticed changes in her son’s behavior, including a lack of appetite and increased crying, which she believed might be related to the stickers.
Parents expressed frustration, stating that the school failed to inform them about the situation in a timely manner. Spring ISD officials acknowledged the allegations in a statement, confirming that the teachers involved had been removed from the classroom. Two paraprofessionals were also placed on administrative leave pending the ongoing investigation by the Spring ISD Police Department.
The district emphasized that the safety of students is a top priority and that any violation of the district’s policy, which prohibits staff from administering any type of medication or supplements without authorization, would be addressed. The investigation is ongoing, and parents are eagerly awaiting further updates.
