Tim Walz Endorses David Hogg for DNC Vice Chair Despite Party Setbacks

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) is endorsing activist David Hogg for vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, signaling a push for younger leadership after the Democratic Party’s defeat in the 2024 election.

Walz praised Hogg’s activism and political engagement, calling him a much-needed force for the party. “David Hogg represents exactly the kind of bold, dynamic, and courageous leadership the Democratic Party needs right now,” Walz said in his endorsement.

During his unsuccessful presidential campaign, Walz campaigned alongside Hogg and now believes the 24-year-old activist can energize the party and connect with voters. “This is exactly what we need right now, experienced, thoughtful and energized leadership that meets people where they are and takes bold action to win,” Walz added.

Hogg, a survivor of the 2018 Parkland school shooting and co-founder of March for Our Lives, has become a prominent figure in the gun control movement. His outspoken activism has drawn both support and criticism, but Walz sees his boldness as a benefit for Democrats.

Responding to the endorsement, Hogg expressed his gratitude. “Ever since the shooting at my high school, he’s been a champion for the gun violence prevention movement,” Hogg said, highlighting Walz’s support for stricter gun laws. Hogg also described Walz as “a good, decent man” who has shown a strong commitment to public service.

Walz’s backing of Hogg follows his recent endorsement of Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin for DNC chair, showing Walz’s involvement in shaping Democratic leadership.

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) has also endorsed Hogg, reflecting growing support among younger Democrats who want to see more activism and bold leadership in the party.

As the Democratic Party struggles to recover from its recent losses, Walz’s support for Hogg signals a push for new leadership and a shift in strategy.
