Trump Blocks Biden From Accessing National Security Briefings Over Trust Concerns

President Donald Trump has formally cut off former President Joe Biden from receiving intelligence briefings, citing a lack of trust and concerns over his ability to handle classified information. The move follows Biden’s own decision in 2021 to block Trump from the same briefings, a decision Trump says set the precedent for his own action.

Trump announced the decision on Truth Social, stating that there was “no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information.” He further emphasized that the move was necessary to “safeguard national security.”

Biden’s declining mental sharpness has been under increased scrutiny following Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report, which described Biden’s memory as “poor” and “faulty.” Hur’s findings indicated that Biden struggled to remember key details about his time in office, reinforcing concerns about his ability to retain and protect sensitive information.

Additionally, Biden’s handling of classified materials after leaving the vice presidency raised further alarms. The Hur report confirmed that Biden “willfully retained and disclosed” classified documents but was not charged, as prosecutors believed a jury would view him as a forgetful elderly man rather than someone intentionally breaking the law.

Trump’s move is part of broader efforts to reshape security policies regarding former officials. In recent months, he has also revoked security clearances from intelligence operatives who signed a 2020 letter discrediting the Hunter Biden laptop story.

Biden has not yet commented on the decision, but his administration previously defended its 2021 move to revoke Trump’s intelligence briefings by citing “erratic behavior” and potential security risks.
