Trump Campaign Lawyer Slams Daily Beast Over Alleged False Report

An attorney for Chris LaCivita, co-manager of President Donald Trump’s campaign, is demanding the Daily Beast retract a report claiming LaCivita pocketed $22 million from Trump campaign entities over two years. The report, described as defamatory by LaCivita’s lawyer, has sparked controversy over media accuracy in covering political figures.

Mark Geragos, representing LaCivita and the Republican National Committee, called the claims “categorically false” and unsupported by campaign finance records. In a strongly worded letter, he accused the Daily Beast of publishing the story with “actual malice,” a legal standard requiring proof the outlet knowingly disregarded the truth.

The letter also suggested the information was provided by Corey Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign aide with a history of tensions with the campaign. Geragos alleged that Lewandowski and others intentionally supplied unreliable information to the Daily Beast to damage LaCivita and the RNC.

“We have reason to believe that these false and defamatory allegations were published… in knowing reliance on unreliable information,” Geragos wrote, specifically naming reporters Michael Isikoff, Hugh Dougherty, and Lily Mae Lazarus.
The Daily Beast has not commented on the letter or the demands for a correction. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign team has defended LaCivita’s integrity, emphasizing the baseless nature of the claims.

This latest incident underscores ongoing battles between conservative political figures and media outlets. As Trump’s campaign gears up for 2024, such disputes highlight the broader issue of accountability and fairness in political reporting.
