Campus Protests Continue As House To Consider Antisemitism Bill

College campuses across the country remain hotbeds of hatred and left-wing extremism as Jewish students are targeted by radicals. In response, the House is set to vote next week on a resolution to address antisemitic hatred at these institutions.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY introduced the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023 as an answer to the explosion of threats and attacks on Jews and Israel after the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist massacre.

The act would mandate that the Department of Education implement the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s standard for antisemitism. This in turn would be used to enforce antidiscrimination laws that are currently being trampled on college campuses.

The measure has 42 co-sponsors, and 12 Democrats signed on to condemn the wave of violence and intimidation.

Reps. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) visited Columbia University on Monday to meet with the few Jewish students who remain and witness the chaotic demonstrations. Both blasted the obvious “double standard” demonstrated against the Jewish student body.

Many of the persecuted students fled Columbia after watching the hatred and threats increase. One, junior Michael Lippman, told the Times of Israel that the university’s leadership is responsible for the chaos.

He said by phone from his Los Angeles home, “At the end of the day, [Columbia President Minouche] Shafik should say ‘enough is enough.’ Frankly, it is absurd and ridiculous that this has been allowed to continue.”

Another student, Noah Miller, addressed the outlet from his home in Houston.

He noted that “something really bad has to happen for something to be done about it. [The protesters] got what they wanted. The campus is Judenrein now. It’s occupied territory. It’s so funny they call it a de-occupation, or liberated zone, but Jews are not allowed.”

The tone of the radical protests shifted substantially in recent days. Chants regularly include “Zionists not allowed here,” “Go back to Poland” and “10,000 October 7ths.”

The Oct. 7 chant referred to the Hamas terrorist massacre that killed some 1,200 Jews and saw hundreds more kidnapped. This, of course, is not the reason for the radical left-wing demonstrations.

Instead, it is anger over the Israeli response to being attacked. Officials vowed to eradicate the Hamas terrorist organization, and protesting students want the retaliation to end before this is done.
